sansa/sandor shippers freak me the fuck out like what is wrong with you

I’ll start off by saying this:

Any shipper can take any pairing to the point of creepy. It can go too far quite easily.

That said, most ships in ASoIaF have a slight “ick” factor at the very least and SanSan is no exception. I am (as is the other woman that updates this blog) a Sandor fan first and foremost. I can’t speak for her on the SanSan thing, but I’m not a shipper in the “OMG OTP XD <3” way; I like the dynamic of their interactions and find their mutual crushes cute in terms of Canon. I have no desire for them to hook up in the books (I have my reasons that  you’re all more than welcome to ask me about). RP? Whatever floats your boat.

I can’t judge anyone their ships or antiships as it were. Everyone has their tastes and likes. No harm, no foul.

So *I* am a dire SanSan shipper, OTP forever, and I think it’s really because of the contrast in the characters. In my head, I ignore the underage thing and fastforward to this imagined. Beauty & the Beast-esque story between the two of them and it’s something drastic and tragic and beautiful.

GRRM has set up the dynamic between the two of them, SanSan shippers aren’t totally imagining this pairing out of nowhere.

YES HOUSE CLEGANE!

Can someone draw a cutesy version of it, like they did with the primary houses? # Little pups rolling over each other.

Please?

I feel like the chapter titles of this fic adequately sums up the entire SanSan shipping.

The gods heard my prayer, she thought. She felt so numb and dreamy. My skin has turned to porcelain, to ivory, to steel. Her hands moved stiffly, awkwardly, as if they had never let down her hair before.

Love, in all its senses.: Honestly though, fan fiction is the same thing as making a prediction about a story

barbiehighheels:

And writing it down in a way you think the story will turn out. GRRM is honestly only afraid of someone guessing correctly and he was being a whiny bitch about it. Besides, even if someone did happen to guess correctly, it’s not as if we would accept it as truth until GRRM wrote down his own story…

Someone’s clearly never heard of copyright law. You can, in fact, be sued for producing a derivative work if it is not a parody or criticism or otherwise covered by fair use. Fanfiction is not protected under fair use.

Besides that, fan fiction is unoriginal. Martin was right in insisting that if someone wants to develop writing skills, it would be better to do so without completely hijacking characters from another work. If you can’t write without taking someone else’s work, then you probably aren’t a good writer in the first place. Martin’s not afraid of fan fiction; he’s bothered by its existence, and rightfully so.

As for this “prediction” argument, there is a great difference between making a prediction and writing a story about Littlefinger fucking Sansa.

Copyright law has absolutely nothing to do with fan fiction as long as people aren’t making a profit from it, that’s why it isn’t protected under fair use DUH. You can’t copyright people’s names for God’s sake, like Robb? Robert? Jon? So long as GRRM doesn’t copyright every fucking word in his books, everyone will be free to write fan fiction using those names (without earning money off of it) as much as they God damn please without fear of the law intervening. Sheesh.

And no actually, there is no great difference between making a prediction and Littlefinger fucking Sansa. Some people actually predict this will happen. Fuck.

Fanfiction is an outlet for the most enthusiastic of fans to create patches over where their emotional needs are unmet by the canon. It’s for people who are dissatisfied, not because a work is imperfect and needs fixing, but because they are left with unfulfilled feelings after finishing something. It’s a coping device and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. GRRM’s issues with fan fiction unsettling, because I feel like there is no greater expression of love for characters than to try and take on their voices and give them happier endings. GRRM’s bleak endings is particularly conducive to this type of fanfare.
